EAST LANSING, Mich. – A Montcalm County dairy farm will host Breakfast on the Farm, a fun, family-friendly event that gives non-farmers a chance to see what modern food production is all about. This free event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 7 at Black Locust Farms LLC, 5644 N. Derby Road, Stanton. Breakfast will be served from 9 a.m. to noon.
A day full of fun and learning is in store for visitors to this Breakfast on the Farm event. Consumers will enjoy a free (with ticket) pancake breakfast featuring Michigan-made products and be able to take self-guided tours of the farm to get a firsthand look at how this modern dairy farm operates.
Tours will include educational exhibits where volunteers will be available to answer questions. Children will enjoy bottle-feeding dairy calves, seeing an ultrasound performed on a pregnant cow, and learning how the large equipment they’ll see comes in handy for growing and harvesting corn, soybeans, wheat, oats and alfalfa on the family’s 900 acres of land.
“We are really looking forward to sharing what we do with our community,” said Jack Jeppesen, one of the farm’s owners. “It’s not just about producing food -- it’s about animal husbandry and being stewards of the land.”
Conservation is a main priority for Black Locust Farms LLC, and Jeppesen is eager to show off his farm.
“I love being outside and working the ground,” Jeppesen said. “We pride ourselves on keeping up-to-date with the most modern practices. We love what we do.”
The farm tour and breakfast are free, but tickets are limited and required to eat breakfast. Free tickets can be obtained at the following locations:

Breakfast on the Farm is a Michigan State University (MSU) Extension program. More than 175 local volunteers help organize and implement each event.
